MAY 3RD 2026 SERMON

Today my landlord is 100 years.  We had a beautiful program at the West Last Vegas Library Theatre.

SERMON TITLE: “THE CROWN OF 100: WHEN LIFE BECOMES A TESTIMONY”

Opening

Today, we are not just talking about a number—we are standing in the presence of a miracle.

One hundred years is not ordinary. It is not accidental. It is intentional. It is preserved. It is a testimony.

To reach 100 is to say: “I have seen storms—and I am still standing.”

“I have walked through time—and time did not defeat me.”

This is not just longevity.

This is divine preservation.

SCRIPTURE 1

Psalm 90:12

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

This scripture is not about counting days—it is about making days count.

At 100 years, life is no longer measured in time…

It is measured in wisdom, impact, and legacy.

POINT 1: 100 IS THE REWARD OF ENDURANCE

Nobody arrives at 100 by accident.

You don’t drift into a century—you fight your way through it.

There were days of joy…

But there were also days of sorrow.

Moments of gain…

And moments of loss.

Yet through it all—you stayed.

POINT 1: 100 IS A LIBRARY, NOT JUST A LIFE

In many African traditions, an elder is not just a person—they are a living archive.

At 100, you carry: Stories no book can hold

Wisdom no school can teach

Experiences no generation can replicate

Micro-Story #1: The Old Tree

A young man once asked why the village never cut down the oldest tree, even though it no longer bore fruit.

The elder replied,

“We do not keep it for fruit—we keep it for shade.”

The lesson: At a certain point in life, your value is not in what you produce…

It is in the covering you provide.

Your presence alone becomes a blessing.

SCRIPTURE 2

Isaiah 46:4

“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”

God is saying: “I didn’t just start with you—I stayed with you.”

To reach 100 is evidence that God has been carrying you all along.

POINT 3: 100 IS A SEED THAT BECOMES A FOREST

A life that reaches 100 does not stand alone.

It produces generations.

It influences lives.

It plants seeds that continue growing.

🎯 Micro-Story # 2: The Hidden Seed

A farmer planted a seed and saw nothing for years.

People mocked him.

But one day, a mighty tree broke through the ground—stronger than all the others.

Why?

Because it spent years growing roots before visibility.

The lesson: A long life is not just visible growth—it is deep rooting.

What people see at 100 is the result of what was built in silence.

CLOSING: THE CROWN OF 100

100 is not just a number.

It is a crown.

A crown of:

Survived battles

Silent prayers

Unseen sacrifices

Enduring faith

It declares: “I did not quit.”

“I did not break.”

“I am still here.”

And today, we don’t just celebrate years—

We celebrate grace.

Because not everyone starts…

And not everyone finishes…

But to reach 100?

That is God’s signature on a life.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for 100 years of grace and faithfulness.

Teach us to live wisely, endure faithfully, and walk in purpose.

As You have sustained this life, sustain us also—

that our days may honor You and leave a legacy of love.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
